Family Engagement Attendance Officer

We wish to appoint a Family Engagement Attendance Officer to join our successful split-site Academies.
Salary Range: Band 3, FTE £27,472 - £29,730. Actual starting salary is £23,562 with performance-based yearly increments available
Contract: Temporary 1 Year Fixed
Working Hours: 37 hours per week (08:00-16:00 Mon-Thurs and 08:00 – 15:30 Fri)
Working weeks: 39 weeks (Term Time + INSET + twilight sessions, including Parent/Open Evenings as required)
The Family Engagement Attendance Officer will provide targeted home-based support to students and their families where school attendance is a concern. The Education Welfare Officer (EWO) will play a proactive outreach role in addressing barriers to attendance, guided by the Department for Education’s “Working Together to Improve School Attendance” framework. This position is designed to work in partnership with families and is focused on supporting pupils to thrive by re-engaging with education.
The successful candidate must be willing to travel independently to home addresses across the local area as needed. Regular CPD will be provided in line with best practice and statutory requirements.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting regular and timely home visits to engage with students and their families where attendance, school refusal, or wellbeing is an ongoing concern
- Work within DfE guidance to deliver effective early intervention strategies that promote sustained attendance and family partnership
- Build trusted, empathetic relationships with parents/carers and students, particularly those from vulnerable or hard-to-reach groups
- Contribute to the planning of support strategies, attendance panels, and Early Help Assessments (EHAs), including multi-agency meetings
- Work closely with internal pastoral teams, safeguarding leads, SEND staff, and external agencies to co-ordinate appropriate family support, including referrals as needed
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
- Experience in education, social care or youth work, supporting vulnerable children, young people or families
- Experience conducting home visits or community-based work
- Commitment to improving pupil outcomes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Tenacity and emotional resilience
- Full UK driving licence and daily access to a vehicle for home visits
