The French curriculum develops pupils’ vocabulary, grammatical knowledge, enabling them to confidently apply language across listening, reading, writing, speaking and translation. We intend to develop our students to be inquisitive and curious about Francophone cultures, knowledgeable and understanding, open-minded and courageous as they personally develop through their learning of French. Retrieval, repetition and metacognitive strategies ensure long-term retention and recall across topics. Pupils experience inclusive, equitable access to learning, supported by scaffolds such as language mats and adaptive teaching. Lessons are differentiated to meet the varying needs of students. 
 
Students explore a diverse range of Francophone cultures, enhancing cultural capital, and promoting global awareness beyond a Eurocentric lens. Educational visits and authentic contexts strengthen engagement and application of language skills. Literacy is supported through reading and writing strategies and oracy, while numeracy is reinforced through language-based applications such as telling the time. Career pathways linked to languages are highlighted to broaden aspirations. The curriculum aims to foster a lifelong love of language learning. 

Teaching is structured through sequenced schemes of work using Dynamo resources and Pearson AQA at KS4, adapted by subject specialists. Lessons include a balance of all four language skills supported by modelling, scaffolding, and gradual independence. Target language use is prioritised to create an immersive environment supported by formative assessment. 
 
Formative assessment is embedded through questioning, quizzing and low-stakes activities, while summative assessments occur each half term across multiple skills. Feedback is provided through marking and structured feed-forward tasks to support progress. Students also engage in peer assessment.  
 
Resources such as Linguascope, dictionaries and scaffolding materials support independent practice. Intervention sessions and adaptive strategies ensure all pupils make progress. 

Our implementation goes beyond the classroom walls and is enriched through a wealth of extracurricular activities. Our students have also the opportunity to go abroad as we organise a residential trip to Paris at KS3.  

Success is demonstrated by pupils confidently applying vocabulary and grammar across all four skills, showing progression in accuracy, fluency, and independence. Pupils become resilient, reflective learners who understand how to improve.  
 
The curriculum supports lifelong learning by developing transferable communication skills, cultural awareness, and a sustained interest in languages.
