We believe that numeracy is a fundamental life skill that empowers students to succeed both within and beyond the classroom. Our vision is that every student, regardless of background or prior attainment, develops secure numeracy skills, mathematical confidence and a positive attitude towards mathematics. We are committed to ensuring that students leave with the fluency to use number, measure and mathematical reasoning confidently in everyday situations and across the wider curriculum.  

Through our Numeracy curriculum, we aim to: 

• Develop fluency in fundamental numerical skills, including number facts, times tables, mental arithmetic and efficient calculation strategies. 

• Strengthen understanding of core mathematical concepts, including number, place value, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and measure. 

• Build mathematical confidence and resilience, enabling students to approach challenges positively and persevere when solving problems. 

• Reduce maths anxiety by creating a supportive learning environment where success is celebrated and mistakes are viewed as opportunities for learning. 

• Enable students to apply numeracy confidently in everyday situations, including budgeting, shopping, finance, measurement and making informed decisions. 

• Foster positive attitudes towards mathematics by demonstrating its relevance, usefulness and value beyond the classroom. 

We achieve our vision through a carefully sequenced Numeracy curriculum that builds confidence, fluency and real-world application. 

Students develop secure foundations in number sense, calculation, fractions, decimals, percentages and measure through regular practice, retrieval and reinforcement.  

We achieve this by: 

• Delivering a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds on prior learning. 

• Prioritising fluency in number facts, times tables and mental arithmetic. 

• Using regular retrieval practice and spaced repetition to strengthen long-term memory. 

• Employing concrete, pictorial and abstract representations to support all learners. 

• Making Numeracy meaningful by embedding real-world contexts such as budgeting, shopping, finance and everyday problem-solving. 

• Encouraging students to apply numeracy confidently in practical situations. 

• Promoting reasoning, critical thinking and mathematical communication. 

• Making explicit links between numeracy, future careers and adult life. 

Through these approaches, students develop the confidence, fluency and resilience needed to apply mathematics successfully both in school and beyond. 

Our primary goal is to ensure that every student develops secure numeracy skills, mathematical fluency and the confidence to apply mathematics successfully in both academic and real-world contexts. By the end students will:
