Geography helps students make sense of the world around them. Through studying people, places and environments, students develop an understanding of how our world works and how different places are connected. We want our students to become curious, informed and responsible global citizens who are interested in the challenges and opportunities facing our planet, both now and in the future. 

Lessons are carefully planned to build knowledge step by step. Students regularly revisit previous learning, practise key skills and apply their knowledge in new contexts. Our teachers use a range of activities, questioning and retrieval tasks to ensure students remember more and develop confidence in their learning.

Topics such as climate change, sustainability and global citizenship encourage students to think about their responsibilities within their local and global communities. Students are encouraged to become informed, respectful and environmentally aware individuals. 

Students develop literacy skills through discussion, reading, extended writing and the use of geographical vocabulary. Numeracy skills are strengthened through map work, fieldwork, graph interpretation and the analysis of geographical data. 

Geography is taught through engaging enquiries and real-world examples. Lessons combine teacher instruction, discussion, practical activities, independent work and opportunities for reflection. We encourage students to ask questions, investigate issues and think critically about the world around them.

Students receive feedback through teacher comments, verbal discussions, self-assessment and peer assessment. They are encouraged to reflect on this feedback and act upon it so they can continue to improve their work and understanding.
